she's home sweet home!!!

i picked up my sadie lady this morning.  :)  with a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the bracebridge animal hospital for taking such good care of my girl.  she's pretty groggy and not liking the cone too much but she can now rest and heal comfortably in her own home.
feeling groggy...
getting comfortable (with some soft food schmutz on her nose)..
snug as a bug in a rug...

she has her check up appointment on tuesday morning and i'm guessing sleeping is going to be her agenda for the next couple of days.  she does seem to be walking on her operated foot fine, her foot is quite padded but that's still good to see.
what i woke up to the morning of her surgery.  i love how the sun is just lighting the tops of the trees.

we're hoping her recovery will be quick so she can get back to sniffin' sniffs and giving stinky kisses.  thanks to all.   your love and support has helped us through, much gratitude and love.

until next time...

sadie lady's surgery

tomorrow sadie is going into surgery for a toe removal :( and while under a teeth cleaning.  :)  after having the growth on her toe for over a year it has finally hit the stage that she is no longer ignoring it and it needs to go.

the problem....

the reason why we're doing the surgery....

she goes in for surgery friday morning and is scheduled to be home saturday morning with around a two week recovery.  i will keep everyone posted on how this sweetness is doing.

until next time...

what's in a month..

on october 3rd i received the call no arborhist's wife wants... ian's been taken to the hospital.  after my heart drops and the confirmation of it's 'not a chainsaw injury' i scramble off to the hospital.  ian's appendix had decided that it was time to leave him.  after days (i'm sure to ian it felt like weeks) in the hospital ian was finally home.  thank you to everyone for their love and support and well wishes, it meant the world to us.  xoxo

our thanksgiving was spent at home with a beautiful walk in our loving, healing woods.
the photo that inspired my most recent painting that is now on display at the bohemian cafe and gallery in bracebridge until november 10th for the 'natural instincts' group of art show monthly show.

after a couple of weeks, with ian improving, things were going well.  we celebrated ian's grandmother's 90th birthday!  happy birthday sybil!!  xo  then the cold from hell (which i am still suffering from) came knocking on the door...making me miss halloween...again.  :(

our bowl of halloween 'candy'..

but with a new month comes new promise.  i'm working away getting ready for the muskoka arts & crafts christmas show on november 26th 10-5 and 27th 11-4 at the bracebridge sportsplex.  ian's slowly entering back to work and the ground is still showing plus i don't mind the cooler weather, it means more snuggle time...

autumn colour treats

ah fall, it's a beautiful time of the year.   full of changing tree colours, sweater usage, and enjoying the last pops of the garden flowers .

lots of our birds have come back to us again this year.  robins, chickadees, blue jays and lately a lone woodpecker.
(i'm glad i didn't get rid of my mullen in the front garden just for this very visit.  :u) )
look at his sweet sweet face.

my fall inspired leaf plates.
enjoy the colour.

the travellers are not alone...

newest additions to the traveller line of gnomes ~  the female travellers!
these little buxom beauties are a perfect companion for the incredibly popular male.

as september rolls in, the gardens start to wind down their colour display and the leaves gear up to start theirs, there is a few little garden treats that are making me smile.  also the amount of hummingbirds i've seen lately is nothing short of magical.
my butterfly bush is just starting to bloom.  a real treat to watch all the life just outside my studio window.
pink phlox explosion!
my 'obedient' plant.
i planted gladiolas the first year i started this section of garden.   i forgot to take them up in the fall that year but every year since a couple come back for a show.  gotta love a flower who fights its own rules.  :uD
my north art coloured begonias.  (just a funny coincidence with randomly packaged bulbs/tubers)

happy september everyone!!
(i know the summer just fleeeeew by!)

home grown 'brain' cobbler...

yesterday i noticed that a few apples had fallen off my apple tree.  slightly alarmed (as a first time apple person it seemed a bit early for them to be ready) i picked them up, smelled them (smelled good) and brought them inside.  having recently discovered most of our back meadows are full of ripe blackberries we decided to pick some after the rain to make a total home grown apple/blackberry cobbler.  how exciting!!!  well it tasted soooo good.  i thought i'd take a photo to document this event, this beauty, this gourmet utterson estate home grown edible love...

okay so it kinda looks like brains.   mmmmm.... zombie cobbler.  so i thought i'd take another photo maybe i'll have better luck....
hahaha, nope looks worse...

well it may not look it but it was delicious.  home grown brain cobbler.  who could ask for anything better! :)

a little utterson estates sunset eye treat from the other night.

until next time..

smile!!!

i just picked up my 'portrait of a friend' painting from the second challenge of the group of art from the bohemian gallery and cafe in bracebridge.  we drew names and i got the lovely and talented liz louter as a partner.  we decided to exchange our paintings of each other and this giant smile (2' x 4') is her depiction of me.  being absolute strangers before this challenge it's very neat to see what others think of you.  my smile was the first thing she noticed.  she also overlaid my blog posts as well over the whole painting.  genius!!

this painting is now hanging in my kitchen keeping the smile going.  (it's hard not to smile at a smile.)

thanks again liz for your talent!!!

presents, plaster mishaps and an over achieving apple branch.

a little garden present was there waiting for me this morning...
after the hard rains last night my white lily finally opened.  :)

the bees are busy at work.  (can you find the bee?  silly things wouldn't stay still for the photo.  ;o) )

i was in the mood for something new this week so i decided to make, or try to make, new molds.  everything was going smoothly until after already started mixing the plaster i realized there would not be enough.  not only not enough to make a full two molds but not enough so the plaster bond is tough enough to work.  it's still curing but it's not looking hopeful. must have more than enough plaster before starting plaster projects, lesson learned.

 keeping busy..

~apple tree update~
the one branch with all the apples needed some extra support but so far everything looks good!

off to try to keep cool on this hot hazy august sunday.

until next time...
