home grown 'brain' cobbler...

yesterday i noticed that a few apples had fallen off my apple tree.  slightly alarmed (as a first time apple person it seemed a bit early for them to be ready) i picked them up, smelled them (smelled good) and brought them inside.  having recently discovered most of our back meadows are full of ripe blackberries we decided to pick some after the rain to make a total home grown apple/blackberry cobbler.  how exciting!!!  well it tasted soooo good.  i thought i'd take a photo to document this event, this beauty, this gourmet utterson estate home grown edible love...

okay so it kinda looks like brains.   mmmmm.... zombie cobbler.  so i thought i'd take another photo maybe i'll have better luck....
hahaha, nope looks worse...

well it may not look it but it was delicious.  home grown brain cobbler.  who could ask for anything better! :)

a little utterson estates sunset eye treat from the other night.

until next time..

smile!!!

i just picked up my 'portrait of a friend' painting from the second challenge of the group of art from the bohemian gallery and cafe in bracebridge.  we drew names and i got the lovely and talented liz louter as a partner.  we decided to exchange our paintings of each other and this giant smile (2' x 4') is her depiction of me.  being absolute strangers before this challenge it's very neat to see what others think of you.  my smile was the first thing she noticed.  she also overlaid my blog posts as well over the whole painting.  genius!!

this painting is now hanging in my kitchen keeping the smile going.  (it's hard not to smile at a smile.)

thanks again liz for your talent!!!

until next time

presents, plaster mishaps and an over achieving apple branch.

a little garden present was there waiting for me this morning...
after the hard rains last night my white lily finally opened.  :)

the bees are busy at work.  (can you find the bee?  silly things wouldn't stay still for the photo.  ;o) )

i was in the mood for something new this week so i decided to make, or try to make, new molds.  everything was going smoothly until after already started mixing the plaster i realized there would not be enough.  not only not enough to make a full two molds but not enough so the plaster bond is tough enough to work.  it's still curing but it's not looking hopeful. must have more than enough plaster before starting plaster projects, lesson learned.

 keeping busy..

~apple tree update~
the one branch with all the apples needed some extra support but so far everything looks good!

off to try to keep cool on this hot hazy august sunday.

until next time...
