busy busy summer!!

wow, just wow!!!  with much thanks and love this has been my busiest summer ever!!! THANK YOU!!!

busily working in the studio trying to build stock back up for the fall and holiday season. but like most creative types when things turn into 'have to's' the mind wanders to wanting (needing) to create something new!!  so a few new creations have made....

wall leaves!!  can be hung inside and out sold in sets of 4.  

and introducing the newest member to the gnome family, the nursery gnome!!!  little bundled baby gnomes nestled in their flower beds!!

i'm really excited to play around with different colours and glazes with this one!!   :)


just a head's up that the porch will be closed september 16th and 17th (friday and saturday) but will be open regular hours until october 1st!

a gnome in the making

 every year i get people unsure of how my gnomes are made, they are NOT slip cast and no machine is used.  well, i guess besides the machine of me....  ;)

from a simple size mold i have made, features then get added on/built up, making all my gnomes truly one of a kind.



and some gnomes, like the travelers, are totally free form!
from lump of clay to gnome in just 50+ easy steps

 i mold in slabs of rolled clay into a simple size two piece mold to make the basic shape.

here we have the cleaned up simple shape of a big fisher gnome waiting for, well, itself.

 big fisher gnome all finished!! :)

he must dry (2-3 weeks) before getting bisque fired, glazed then glaze fired. the whole trip takes between 4-6 weeks depending on the type of gnome. 

making things that make people smile, it's a pretty good gig!!

just a quick shout out to everyone for making this seasons muskoka arts and crafts summer show a great success!!!  the weather couldn't have been better (the week ahead was such an absolute scorcher...) and met/made friends old and new!!

again much thanks and love to all who came out!!!  just about to load the car for the next set up, the artful garden which starts this coming saturday and runs daily 10-5 for the following three weeks!!  a must see!!
